Why haven't we heard about the Global Compact for Migration here in New Zealand? President Trump made waves when he rejected the Pact, due to be signed this December, nearly a year ago. Many other nations have withdrawn support, but what about us?

The latest poll provides some interesting insights into just what is going on in the political arena. While polls at this stage don't translate into actual results, they do show us just what is working and what isn't.

The budget news is largely uninteresting: a few key promises have been delayed, funding for all kinds of the usual things are up, and unlike most of National's budgets, this one at least appears to be balanced. There is one funny bit though.

Your humble correspondent is currently on a visit to the Land of Song, where presumably the All Blacks will dish out another rugby lesson in a week or so. It's chaos over at Green HQ, just like this time last week it was chaos over at Labour HQ. They say a week is a long time in politics. Seven days ago Andrew Little was Labour leader and the Greens had reached a new high in the polls. Jacinda Ardern has since struggled to differentiate herself, other than being a younger female version of this week's Labour ...
Pepe the Frog

I’m not sure if Kirsty Johnston’s article about the ‘Alt Right’ in New Zealand was more disingenuous or just hopelessly out of touch. Either way, she completely missed the mark as far as demonstrating understanding of the growing discontent in New Zealand and around the world with the political, media and academic establishment. Ms Johnston spent several ...

With just over two months to go before New Zealanders head to the polls, the New Zealand First Party are having a dream run: Labour are in disarray, National's credibility is under attack, and with immigration becoming a central issue in the campaign, the stars seem to be aligning for Winston Peters. Or at least, that was the case until the announcement ...
