Winston Peters: Seymour "nigger tied" by National

No one has ever accused NZ First leader Winston Peters of being politically correct, and that tradition is likely to continue after he made some inflammatory statements earlier today. In his latest interview, Peters responded to a question about David Seymour wanting to abolish the Department of Maori Affairs, by ignoring the question and attacking Seymour instead, again referring to him as "the most expensive beneficiary in the land."

The reality is, [David Seymour] is running around now nigger tied by the National party before the election was over and the first thing they did was drop him.

The comment appears to be a tongue-in-cheek response to David Seymour calling Winston Peters a racist last month, because of his policies aimed at reducing immigration and the refugee program.

Peters added that he had "no comments" about David Seymour, even as he added that he thinks the ACT party leader suffers from a psychological condition known as "recognition hunger."

Neither the phrase "nigger tied" nor "recognition hunger" seem to have any official meaning, but the former would seem to refer to Seymour effectively being a slave to National and having to keep them happy, while the later would be a dig at Seymour wanting to grab attention by attacking Peters even though he is not a relevant factor in any coalition negotiations.

Winston Peters has yet to announce whether he will be working in coalition with National or Labour, but talks are expected to wrap up soon.
